Background Information
Taninthayi Nature Reserve Project (TNRP) is a collaborative project initiated in 2005, aims at conserving tropical rain forests and its constituent biodiversity in Yebyu Township of Dawei District of Taninthayi Region. Tanintharyi Nature Reserve (TNR) is located in Kalainaung (Yephyu) and Dawei Townships, Dawei District and lie between Dawei River and Thailand- Myanmar broundary.
It encompasses an area of (420,060) acres with part of Heinze-Kalainaung Reserve Forest and Lu Wine Reserve Forest. In order to conserve the tropical evergreen ecosystem and native flora and fauna in north and east part of Tanintharyi Nature Reserve, Forest Department has been implementing the TNRP project with the collaboration of Mottama Gas Transportation Company (MGTC), Tanintharyi Pipeline Company (TPC) and Andaman Transportation Limited (ATL) as funding agencies.
Goals of TNRP
The two major goals of the project are;
- To ensure the sustainable protection of Tropical Evergreen forests and its endangered wild endemic plants and animals
- To promote the participation of local people in conservation of TNR with appreciated manner on value of biodiversity by supporting for the sustainable socioeconomic and livelihood improvement of local people.
